A special weather advisory statement has been issued as the expected rainfall in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) may cause Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) rivers to experience higher than normal flows and water levels.Environment Canada is forecasting rainfall for the GTA between to have estimated total precipitation amounts between 15 to 25 mm, though additional rain may occur if the system stalls or thunderstorms develop.The Water Safety Watershed Conditions Statement will be in effect through to the end of the day Sunday.Shoreline hazards along Lake Ontario may also be elevated due to increased wind and wave activity.Slippery, unstable banks, and changing water levels could create hazardous conditions in and around rivers or other water bodies in the GTA.Local ponds and other bodies of water classified as low-lying areas may also be impacted due to poor drainage.All shorelines, rivers, and streams within the GTA should be considered hazardous.Precautions around bo...Power station fire, explosions cut off power in much of Iraq in scorching summer heat, officials say

FRANCE, France — A staff sergeant who oversaw Marine training at South Carolina’s Parris Island has been cleared of criminal responsibility in the death of a 19-year-old recruit in 2021.A military jury on Friday found Staff Sgt. Steven Smiley not guilty of negligent homicide and four other counts in the death of Pfc. Dalton Beals, The Hilton Head Island Packet reported.The defense argued with the help of medical experts that an existing heart condition contributed to Beals’ death. The prosecution had asserted Beals was suffering from heat stroke after Smiley pushed him too hard. The jury did, however, find Smiley guilty of violating an order that forbids drill instructors from calling recruits names. Smiley called recruits “pig” and “war pigs” and “sweet bacon” during training. The jury was still deliberating on a sentence Friday night, the Island Packet reported. Toronto police have arrested a woman in connection with multiple residential break and enters in the Carlton Street and Jarvis Street area.Between June 27 and July 10, police received multiple reports of alleged break and enters in the area, and on July 16, Susan Felix, 28, of no fixed address, was arrested and charged.The charges include six counts of breaking and entering and house dwelling, two counts of fraud under $5,000, two counts of unauthorized use of credit card data, four counts of possessing identity documents and two counts of failure to comply with a release order.Felix was also charged with theft under $5,000, mischief over $5,000, trespassing at night, possessing break-in instruments, possessing property under $5,000 obtained by crime, possessing proceeds of crime under $5,000 and failure to subsequently appear in court.She was scheduled to appear in court at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre on July 17.Police believe there may be more victims of the break and enters.India cuts rice exports, triggering panic-buying of food staple by some Indian expats in the US

OAKBROOK TERRACE, Ill. — Several people are displaced after an apartment fire early Saturday morning in Oakbrook Terrace.Ken Kovarik, the fire marshal for the York Center Fire Protection District, said the fire was believed to be caused by lightning from the storms overnight.
